CHAPTER 4

Erik lifted a favorite gel pen and rubbed his fingers against it, gathering the new lyrics that he'd found in himself when he'd sang with Jordy. With his very thoughts composed, his composition flew onto the page. He wrote faster than he had in ages. Finally, the music was coming.

It was Jordy. It was the chemistry he’d felt when he'd heard that angel sing his music. It was as though he heard it for the first time. It meant that he was able to hear more, to write more. He'd found the perfect partner to the lyrics of the first Aria of Loneliness and was finally writing the second Aria of Loneliness.

A single line had come to him before, and now he was writing the entire thing.

Had written the entire thing.

"You will sing this," Erik bellowed to Jordy who was now washing his hands and then drying them.

Erik didn't wait for a response. "Come here for the lyrics, I've written them--"

"As you sang them?" Jordy called up, the pure joy in his voice unable to be contained. He knew those lyrics now. Sure, he'd only heard them once, but Erik Madrigal had touched him, had sang them to him. He could never forget that. He was going to remember that moment, that feeling, his voice, the feel of him, forever. It was better than any dream or fantasy could have been.

His dreams. It was Erik in his dreams. Erik's music, that feeling within him, it all felt familiar and he knew that it was the flavor and feel and the reality of what he'd dreamt.

What had brought him to Urie.

"I haven't changed them," Erik's gruff voice was short, for once, he wasn't offended that he'd been interrupted. He simply nodded, and allowed Jordy to sing to him. He couldn't imagine him not singing to him in this moment. How had he written music without his muse before? Had he always been something that inspired him? Erik's bear growled to him, some unknowable knowledge that his bear communicated to him now. Somehow, it had always been him.

That's when Erik knew. Undeniably. That angel singing his song to him while he took notes on the music and the lyrics and he wanted them. Jordy. Jordy was his mate.

Jordy sang the lyrics, very proud of himself for remembering them and knowing that he could never forget them.

He felt them.

He felt them as he felt the tears pouring down his cheeks, hot, and something else.

His polar bear rumbled within him, something stirring him to the surface. Jordy was filled with terror at his polar bear shifter trying to rise above his human. Jordy’s skin felt too tight and the rumbling within him was terrifying. He may be much smaller compared to Erik, but as a bear he was too big to be in that cabin and far too dangerous to be near him.

What if he couldn't control it?

Why did this have to be now?

The tears burned hotter down Jordy's cheeks, coming faster, and
